ok kinda stupid but...
has anyone played deus ex human revolution? anyways the start menu has some kinda somber music that doesn't break during the transition to the main menu and whenever you hit start it makes a ping sound. it is really interesting that it works really well with the music in many different ways depending on how quickly it takes you to push start. like i dont really know how to explain it but it works perfect if you hit start at the first possible moment, but with in the first 3 sec there are a couple steps and half steps that it fits really well with. again pretty stupid but id never noticed that in a game before and i wasn't sure if any one else had a similar experience with this or any other game.

ReplyDeleteThis is actually the start screen for Flow. You can fully control the character and will never die, but once you eat the red floating object, it is on.
Start menus are interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt's still rare, but from time to time you can find an indie game that just starts the second the game begins.
The Metal Gear Solid series has interactive start menus, but it's limited to shifting subtle visuals behind the menu.
I've heard the argument that the start menu of Megaman X teaches you essentially how to play the game. MMX stands next to each menu option and selecting an option is also the same button for cannon fire. After seeing this association, you're thrown directly into the first level and you already know one ability.
