Successor Syndrome refers to the effect of economic decline experienced in reference to gaming software or hardware when a successor game or system is released. For instance, the weekly sales of the Nintendo DS in the U.S. were $78,797 on March 26, 2011, a day before the 3DS was released. A week later, the DS sales were $69,857, almost ten thousand dollars less.
