Hardcore can have two different applications in video games. One definition refers to a self-designated title of "being" hardcore, meaning that the player attempts to claim that he is more into, passionate, or dedicated to gaming than a casual player. The second definition is applied to games themselves. Hardcore games are usually defined by being niche and usually featuring an increased difficulty level and learning curve. These two definitions usually form a feedback loop whereby hardcore players only play hardcore games. Genres that tend towards this term include shooters, fighting games, and RPGs.

Alternate definition. Mythical solid, toned torso, missing on most gamers.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely 'hardcore gamers' exhibit the most elitist qualities of any stratum of gamer. Although they claim to be the most amorous of the gaming classification, they can barely defend a 20% market share of game sales, and are often slaves to new hardware and software releases, despite the pitfalls and shortcomings the systems and games might have.
