Project 1: History

When brain storming for the first project. I began thinking of ways that we immerse ourselves into new and exciting things.I for one delve into the history of things. By investing time in the history of a new subject, we learn more about the subject.

This is where my piece seems to be going.

I think I have narrowed the subject of my piece down.

I think I would like to make a 'documentary.'

After the North American video game industry crash in 1983, Nintendo bravely released its Nintendo Entertainment System stateside in 1985.

This console changed the industry, and is the gaming console that most adult gamers got their start on.The console lasted 10 years with production of the system stopping n 1995. The console has a library of more than 791 games that have been released for the system.

The Project:
For my project I want to create a 'documentary' of the games released for the system. By using technology to screen capture the title/start screen for the over 900 (including the japan game market) games.

These images will then be compiled into a video, where each image is given 2 frames. The video will run at 24 frames per second, meaning that for every second the viewer will see 12 NES games. In approximately 1 minutes 15 seconds(depending on the actual amounts of screen captures) the viewer will have seen the entire library for the NES.

Things that I am keeping in mind while working.
What does it actually mean to see the entire library of games for a given system?
Upon watching the 'documentary' is the viewer more knowledgeable about the system itself?
Would the viewer have more knowledge about the system than an avid player who has not seen all these games?
If we are looking and documenting game culture, should the documentation of the games be just as, if not more, important?
Sonically what would this piece be?

What does all this data that has been collected actually mean?
What is more important: The archiving of the information, or the presentation of the information?

thoughts?
