Why: To show the public - gamers, casual players, non gamers, etc., - what fully immersive gaming is like, and to show how the gamer in a "natural" habitat would be acting.
Required accessories: comfortable chair, Xbox 360, Skyrim, TV, snacks
Documentation: recorded gameplay from three directions; facing me, a side view of me and the TV, and a view of the TV straight on. Sound would be recorded, as well as the reactions of the passersby.
Presentation: A condensed video of said footage that serves as a documentary of sorts.
This is just a rough idea, and it will be refined for this weekend, when I record it all.
Do you guys have recommendations on how this could be improved or change? I'm really interested in making this a performance piece, as well as a way to de-stress about school while also doing homework.
i wonder about the location here.
ReplyDeletei think the context really matters.
game setup in a college town, normal-ish.
game setup in darfur, different connotation.
once you have someone's attention, what do you do with it?
maybe you could get them involved.
'hey, can you play a round for me, don't die, i only have one life',
then take off and see how long they try to play the game for?
spitballing.
ideas for locations:
ReplyDeleteNursing home - permission would definitely be required.
Park - a generator or other means of powering the xbox and monitor would be required. This could be good for contrast. Parks are generally accepted as places of physical activity.
Would also be interesting to see if we could get space in the lab theater. We could project the game while it's being played. Create a flyer and invite people to come watch and/or participate. Video tape the responses in all cases.
