I was thinking the other day about the time when I discovered the money cheat for The Sims. It was way different than any other cheat I had learned of before, it was life/game changing. I became obsessed with gaining more money (that was essentially free) to buy the most expensive fanciful things and in turn make my Sims people happy. After i had built the most amazing mansion and become a celebrity in the Sims world it began to not be fun anymore. There was a challenge involved before the money cheat, and i had gotten to a point where there was no challenge at all. I remember trying to start over and not use the code, it was nearly impossible.
1. I feel like there is a lot to be said about creating your own world in a game, and having the ability to buy and do whatever your heart desires, perhaps even live vicariously through a life you have a created.
2. What do you think about cheats? To use or not to use. Can you resist them?
The Sims got a bit tedious for me, and so when I just wanted to be able to create fabulous, ridiculous houses and have fun decorating things, I would rosebud the heck out of it. I couldn't stand telling my Sims when to go to the bathroom, eat, socialize.. I guess that's just me, but being able to get past the trivial details helped me enjoy the Sims much more.
ReplyDeleteanother thing to chat about tomorrow.
ReplyDeletecheating.
does cheating change the game/play structure.
in a single player game?
in a multiplayer game?
e
i think it depends on what the cheat is. in half-life 2, you can create NPCs (non-playable characters) and have huge fights between forces just by spawning these things. I think it adds a layer to the game, sort of like bonus levels in games on super nintendo, sega, etc.
ReplyDeleteat least for me i wouldn't cheat until i beat the game.
